So, my surgery on Friday did happen as planned.

Today I feel a lot better. My nose hurts, and my head, too, but I can actually breathe! The swelling has gone down a lot, and my face looks familiar again. And I slept in my own bed last night, which was bliss. I just sneezed for the first time since the surgery, OMG OW, but at least there's no blood. And I have yet to master rinsing with the saline solution. I squirted myself in the eye.

I was supposed to have septoplasty surgery today to correct my deviated septum and maybe bring an end to the skull-crushing sinus headaches. I got to the hospital at 11:30, got into my backless hospital gown, and waited. And waited. And waited. I managed to read three or four chapters of The Story of my Life by Giacomo Casanova before a nurse came in at about 2:30 and told me that my surgeon wasn't going to be able to operate today. My initial reaction was "You're kidding, right?" followed by "Good, I can finally eat something."

I've been rescheduled for tomorrow. As a matter of fact, I am the first patient of the day, with a surgery time of 8:00am. My schedule for tomorrow looks like this:

12:00am: No more food
5:00am: No more liquids
7:00am: Arrive at hospital
7:30am: ????
8:00am: Profit! Surgery

After that, I'll have to wait for the anesthetic to wear off, and then I get to go home. Then follows a week of recovery. I probably won't have the energy to do much but watch DVDs and create an ass-groove on the sofa, so I may be off-line for a while.

This morning, I finally had my allergy test. Guess what I'm allergic to? You'll never guess. I'm allergic to NOTHING. Nothing at all. At least, nothing they tested for, which was a lot. (Horses? They test for that?)

I don't get it. If I'm not allergic to anything, and I don't have sinusitis, then what the hell is causing the skull-crushing pain, the feeling that someone has punched me in the face, the pressure in my head and the constant congestion? WHAT THE HELL?

In other news, I had my hair re-reddened today. I decided to go with something more dramatic, now that I'm used to being a redhead. Last time it was Leeloo Dallas Multipass Orange (which faded to strawberry blonde), and today it's... Red. Like, Sangria-coloured. Like OMG!RED. I expect it will fade, but the hairdresser did say that it won't fade as much as last time. I like it, but it's still such a shock!

I really shouldn't be posting right now. My OMG!RED hair and I have got to study for a government French exam. I entered a job contest to have my name put in the running for any Government of Quebec public relations jobs that may come up. They need Anglophones, which is good news for me, but I still need to pass that exam. It's a two-hour multiple choice exam, followed by a two-hour essay, and it's TOMORROW, and I am so not as prepared as I want to be.

I've been on an epic quest to find out what the hell is wrong with my head. My CT scan (not MRI-- I was mistaken about that) ruled out chronic sinusitis. Now they think it may be rhinitis. I had an allergy test scheduled for next Wednesday, and was instructed not to take any antihistamines for 10 days prior to the appointment. Which has been Hell on toast, because this spring has been particularly bad for allergies. My head feels like it's about to cave in, and I've been so dizzy I can barely stand. I have been completely miserable for the last four days. This is my one real day off this week, and I've spent most of it in bed wishing for death.

But I just got a phone call from the allergist's office, rescheduling my appointment for June 20th. On one hand, this sucks, because I'll have to ask my manager to reschedule my day off and I have to wait longer to find out what the hell is wrong with me, but on the other hand THANK TINKERBELL JEEBUS!!! I am going to go have a big bowl of Benadryl RIGHT NOW.

I went for an MRI today. The sinus specialist recommended it because I've had two x-rays already, and the doctors haven't pinpointed the cause of my sinus problems. Let's hope this one comes back with something useful!

The MRI itself was cool. I lay on my stomach with my chin on a platform, and the bed I was on moved back and forth into this big, white donut thing. The whole exam took maybe five minutes. I guess I've been watching too much House, because I was expecting one of those big full-body scanners. I didn't even know they made them that small!

The only drawback is that I've been really dizzy and shaky ever since. I don't know if that's a side-effect of the scan, or if it's my sinuses, or if I really just need to eat something-- although I ate something a little while ago, and I still feel weird.

Fucking OW

Oh, sweet Tin Vagabond Jeebus, the sinusitis is so bad tonight. It feels like somebody has punched me repeatedly in the face. My left eye hurts, my teeth on that side ache, and it feels like my nose is broken. Every time I breathe in, it feels like I'm inhaling powdered glass.

I've taken some Sinutab to depressurize my head, but it hasn't kicked in yet. I was a complete mess at work today because of this (decongestant high + pain + lack of oxygen to brain = CRAZY HEATHER), and it's gotten steadily worse since I've been home. This is the worst it's been in ages. I don't know how I'm going to get to sleep tonight.

WAH. I know. But seriously, this fucking hurts.
