How did I get so emotionally involved in a TV show?
It is not our fault if the BBC casts an actor of such astronomical talent, charisma, and hotness that we become hopelessly obsessed with a TV show, is it?
Remember: he's signed for all the specials, and unlike RTD, Tennant doesn't lie to the press. He'll dodge questions or answer them obliquely, but I can't recall anything he's said that would imply he might not be in the specials. (Not to mention that BBC press releases have confirmed he's in them, and those have to be for real, too.)

Oh, you must watch the Confidential, because it is full of David Tennant being the world's biggest geek about Davros and the Daleks. There's a point where he poses with Davros and has such a gleeful expression on his face that you realize that had DT not become a famous actor, he'd have been paying £10 at the "Get your photo taken with Davros" booth at Worldcon.
