Time is not the boss of me! ([personal profile] syzygy_dw) wrote2008-07-29 07:42 pm

A short list

Things making me happy these days:

  • My husband, who is a newscaster on a certain Canadian public broadcasting radio station, recently managed to hide a Doctor Who reference in a story about wolves stealing calves from farms. "Farmers in the Abitibi have a Bad Wolf problem..." He waited until he was sure I would hear it. He's the best.
  • I bought this Muppet Show lunch box in Old Quebec. It's pretty much the awesomest thing ever. And yes, I take my lunch to work in it. All the other kids my co-workers are so jealous.
  • The weather here has been pretty fantastic, which has meant a lot of sitting around drinking sangria on the patio.
  • I go on two weeks' vacation as of Sunday. Even more sangria/patio action.
  • Strawberries. Mmmm.
Things making me not so happy these days:

  • I made the mistake of wearing a top with an empire waist to work today, and a customer said, "Oh, you have a bun in the oven!" My oven is currently bun-free. But thanks for making me feel bad about my weight, lady. I'm never wearing that shirt to work again.
  • I had a follow-up doctor's appointment for my ongoing sinus problem. I am having surgery on Sept 25th to correct my slightly deviated septum.
  • My mother wants to come up and visit this September for our birthday (She and I have birthdays two days apart). She plans to bring my dad with her. That'll be fun.
The good things outweigh the bad things, so I'm calling it a win.

muppet show lunch box = WIN.

myself, i've got a fraggle rock lunch box (http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/muppet/images/thumb/5/55/Tags1984FraggleLunchboxfront.jpg/300px-Tags1984FraggleLunchboxfront.jpg) (although it's missing the thermos, alas). i used to have a battle of the planets and a clash of the titans lunchbox too, but alas, they seem to have wandered away...

Fraggle Rock lunch box! Yay! (Mine doesn't have a thermos, either.)

I never had a lunch box as a kid, because I went home for lunch, but I always wanted one. I wanted either a) the Muppet Show, b) Transformers, or c) Jem and the Holograms.

I had to wait until I was 32 to get one, though.

i had lunchboxes when i was a kid, but they were always kind of hokey - peanuts, raggedy ann, the movie version of annie, etc. i had to wait until i was a grownup to get the really cool ones. :)

What is it with your customers thinking it's okay to ask about your nonexistent children?

(Also, unrelated: by any chance, are you thinking of going to Worldcon in Montreal next year? Because I am trying to convince [livejournal.com profile] columbina we should go.)

Seriously, right? What makes people think it's OK to talk to strangers about this?

(And yes, I am thinking of going to Worldcon. I haven't been to a Con in ages, and Montreal is the centre of my geekiness!)

All most people have to do is once ask, "When are you due?" and find out the other is not pregnant to NEVER DO IT AGAIN.

Clare played a little game with her co-workers, not mentioning her pregnancy (other than to her senior management friends) and waited to see if anyone would say anything. The cat finally came out of the bag, but she was into her fifth month before it did. (FWIW, I don't like empire waists on anyone, and they do often look like preggerware -- Clare has a couple she's wearing now.)

As for lunchboxes, I have four words for you: Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp.
