A few LJ things:

1) How the hell do I get LJ to stop sending me notifications whenever someone gets a virtual gift? I unchecked the appropriate box in my Journal Viewing Options, but it doesn't seem to work. I have received about 30 emails telling me that someone has received a snowflake cookie. While that's sweet and all, it's filling up my inbox at an alarming rate.

1a) Thanks for the cookie, [livejournal.com profile] ghost2 !

2) Has anyone else had issues with making LJ cuts?

3) Should I change my journal name? I am not particularly attached to the one I have. Plus, I am tired of people thinking I named myself after cheese.

The vgift notifications were probably queued up along with the comment notifications that haven't been arriving, so even though you changed the setting it was too late to stop them. The free cookie has been gone since yesterday, so there shouldn't be any new notifications generated (though they have said they'll probably do some free vgifts again in the future).

I know people have had issues with lj-cuts in the rich text editor, but I don't use it, so I'm not sure of the specifics.

And I don't have a strong preference on your name... I don't like LJ names that are phrases, because I feel silly calling someone a phrase, but other than that, whatever makes you happy :).

Last night I was at 30 messages by the time I went to bed. This morning, I checked my email, and I had 110 more. And they just keep coming!

I didn't know about the notifications backup, but it makes sense. I just wish they would stop already! (Also, I didn't receive notifications about your comment or the one below... unless I just deleted them when I saw the 99th LiveJournal email.)

As for my name, I hated adding the "75" at the end. But Heather is a really common name, and I am not the first clever clogs to figure out that it can be translated into French. What I am wondering is if I do change my username, would confuse people? (Although I suppose I could put "formerly bruyere_75" in my header or something.)

According to the post in lj_maintenance, they have something like 12 million jobs to process in the notification queue, so you may yet be getting a few more messages in your inbox.

I don't have strong feelings about changing your username, though it could confuse people for a little while. There's some way to buy a rename token that will automatically redirect people, though, which should help. Sadly, someone else already has [livejournal.com profile] syzygy ...

I ended up with almost 200 of those damn notifications. I think I managed to block them eventually, because they finally stopped coming today. Every single one of them was for that stupid snowflake cookie.

I am thinking about buying a rename token. I am not particularly attached to my username, and I like syzygy. It's too bad it's taken already. I may either do what [livejournal.com profile] nostalgia_lj did and become syzygy_lj or something, or add an underscore before and after. I'll think of something.

I dunno...I've never gotten notices on lj about virtual gifts. I didn't even know we HAD virtual gifts on lj.

It's like the ones on Facebook. You have to buy them. LJ had a free snowflake cookie available yesterday. I'm averaging an email a minute from LJ-- but if I send them to my spam filter, I won't get the notifications I actually want. (I changed the settings in my LJ account, but apparently, these have been backed up in the queue for a few days, so I am getting them all at once. YAY.)

I think I was the only one with a significant-enough ignorance of French who thought you were a type of cheese.

I had a problem getting text inside the cut box when it was in text mode, so I momentarily shifted to html mode and was able to drop the text right in between the cut and stop-cut tags.

You weren't. When I chose the name, I forgot about Gruyere. It never occurred to me. It's not a huge pain in the ass or anything, but I am not particularly attached to it, and I was given a cool nickname at Worldcon, so I think 2010 is going to usher in a change.
