(I have already used the La, La, La, La thing for twitter and Facebook, but you know what? It's 5am. I do not have enough functioning brain cells to come up with anything better!)

I'm leaving for Gallifrey One in just a few hours. I may have (sporadic) email between here and LA, so if you're coming to the con, post a comment to this entry! We'll figure out a way to meet up.

If you're hanging out at the bar or in the lobby at some point, I have short red hair, a CBC bag and the pin that's in my icon. I will most likely be wearing black. Come say Hi!

Hello, all!

It's the eve of a new year, and I've decided to start 2010 with a brand new name.

I've decided to retire bruyere_75 and have renamed myself [livejournal.com profile] syzygy_lj . Contrary to what a lot of people thought, "bruyère" is not actually a cheese, it's French for Heather. But people still mix it up with Gruyère. I've toyed with the idea of changing my username for a while, but I could never really come up with anything good.

This summer at Worldcon, I took part in a sci-fi themed game of charades. [livejournal.com profile] purplecthulhu, the moderator of the game, had prepared clues based on sci-fi novels nobody in North America had ever heard of. The first clue I had to act out was "Syzygy".

I didn't even know how to pronounce "syzygy", let alone act it out, but I gave it my best. I charaded my heart out, but my team got stuck on the last syllable. I think someone from the Paul Cornell's team eventually got it. I declared to the room that "syzygy" would be my battle cry for the con. I sort of forgot about it until the next day when I passed Paul in the hallway, and he pumped his fist in the air and went "SYZYGY!" It totally became a thing.

I even had a button made up:

So when I was casting around for a new username, this one seemed right. Of course, someone else had already claimed [livejournal.com profile] syzygy , so I had no choice but to add a suffix to it. LiveJournal doesn't allow punctuation, which sucks. I was never keen on having a number after my name, so I took a bit of inspiration from [livejournal.com profile] nostalgia_lj , and there you go. A shiny new name for a shiny new year!

I'm going to keep using my regular default icon (the pink and grey skull Chucks), and I've added "I used to be bruyere_75" to my profile. Hopefully that will help ease some of the confusion.
