Day 10 – A Who-Related Photo That You Took

This is the cake from my friend's nephew's 13th's birthday party. As you may have guessed, it was Doctor Who themed. My friend throws kick-ass kids' parties. They usually involve a treasure hunt, and for this one, her nephew JS was the Tenth Doctor. He and his companions, Rose, Jack, and Romana (me) traveled through space and time in the TARDIS (the downstairs bathroom) looking for the segments to the Key to Time.

Ever wondered what blue tastes like?

There were puzzles to solve, codes to break, a piñata, and my friend's brother who is an engineer, disguised his robot to look like a Dalek:

Yes, it's an actual robot. One day, he's going to build a Dalek.

Anyway, the party was awesome. Tons of people got involved, playing all the various characters, decorating the house (I wish I had a picture of the bathroom TARDIS, it was so amazing) and coming up with all the games and puzzles. We even managed to get one of his birthday presents, a sonic screwdriver, to play a major role. JS was thrilled to bits with this birthday, and he still talks about it two years later. He's almost too old for these parties now, which is too bad.

But don't worry, my friend has a niece. She's only three, but she's already a Doctor Who fan. One of her first English words was "EXTERMINATE!"

Day 11 – Your Favorite Season (Classic or New)

I can't choose just one season out of all of them, so I am going to pick one from the classic era, and one from the new series.

Hands down, my favourite classic series season is Season 16, otherwise known as The Key to Time. It's the season that introduced Romana, who is my favourite classic series companion. She was a character that could hold her own against Tom Baker's Doctor, and Mary Tamm did a fabulous job at it. It had Douglas Adams as both a writer and a script editor. There were pirates (in SPACE!), knights, androids, the Doctor flirting with Unlimited Power, Romana's fantastic wardrobe, and a robot dog. Plus a really intricate story that takes an entire season to tell. It's pretty amazing, really. I have watched it many times, and I was very happy to receive the box set for Christmas last year.

My favourite new series season is (wait for it...) Series Fnarg 5. Yeah, a big shock, I know. But as much as I love the other seasons (all criticisms aside), Series 5 delivers on so many levels. It has consistently great stories (yes, even Victory of the Daleks. Shut up, I like it), Matt Smith is amazing as Eleven, Amy Pond is fun and weird, bow ties and fezzes are now cool, and cracks in the wall are now scary. There's RIVER FUCKING SONG, Rory, and a series-long story arc that makes a ton of sense and pays off in so many ways. Plus, the series finale was just so emotionally satisfying.

Plus, how cute are Mazza and Kazza? SO CUTE:

I am so sad Series 5 is over. Saturdays are just not the same without it.

More meme this way... )
